وَفِي ذَاتِ يَوْمٍ قَالَ يُونَاثَانُ بْنُ شَاوُلَ لِلْغُلَامِ حَامِلِ سِلَاحِهِ: «تَعَالَ نَعْبُرْ إِلَى حَفَظَةِ ٱلْفِلِسْطِينِيِّينَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِي ذَلِكَ ٱلْعَبْرِ». وَلَمْ يُخْبِرْ أَبَاهُ.
و روزی واقع شد که یوناتان پسر شاول به جوان سلاح دار خود گفت: «بیا تا به قراول فلسطینیان که به آن طرفند بگذریم.» اماپدر خود را خبر نداد.
